A Brief Note On Stones River National Battlefield

Stones River National Battlefield Stones River Battlefield was an obvious choice for this assignment. I live and study in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I know that there is a lot of history in the area, but it is not often that we encounter this history on a daily basis. It is important to know about the history because it helps us to understand the present and the culture of any area. I found that this battlefield was actually very important to the events of the Civil War, therefore, I knew that this would be a great place for me to visit for this assignment. There really is not that much literature readily available about the Battle of Stones River or the Battlefield. Therefore, taking the battlefield in in person becomes even more critical. It is amazing to see that the battlefield has been preserved as well as it has been especially given the rapid industrialization that has occurred in the city where it is located. I was able to locate a publication printed by the National Parks Serv ice that explains how the battlefield changed in the early 1990s. From this publication, I found some startling information. The battlefield is located near a part of Murfreesboro that is rapidly expanding and has been for some time. Not surprisingly, many of the original structures have been completely removed to make way for housing divisions and shopping strip malls.
